cont. / long post alert
276 days (9 months) after the burn.
I rarely (or never) show my scars on social media but I decided to today. Not that I wanted to hide them (everyone around me has seen them), but I didn’t wanna magnify them, create news or make a drama out of them, and most importantly, scare off people who fear of seeing blood, injuries or scars (well, it’s normal that our minds have unconsciously been conditioned to look at scars as something scary or unsettling) but yes... here’s my long post to thank you all for being with me throughout the recovery journey: #JLRecoveryDiary
Just gotta share the good news! This is how they look like now, almost invisible with beauty filter on. It’s mind blowing to witness the fresh red raw wound slowly healed into pink scars, then turned brown with some discolored marks, and currently this. I could barely even see the shapes now when I bended down to take a closer look at them, the 9 months old new baby skin ♡
If any of you who are reading this have a scar too, I’m glad we share some similarities, but if you’re depressed with it, hey... don’t look at ourselves with the eyes of the world. I always think it’s not logical to expect ourselves looking “perfect”. Throughout the recovery, I wasn’t eager to get rid of the scars at all. Though many have suggested me (or rather comforted me) that there are ways to reduce scars like having laser treatment or so, the only thing I did (and am still doing) is just to apply cream every day and night, and to protect them from the sun. Yes, it might not be something we’re proud of, but scars speak of us having gone through something that others have not, and “gone through” literally means it is all in the past. The unbearable pain has passed. The struggling has passed. The marks are the proof of how strong we were. And if those incidents have taught us something, keep ourselves reminded while moving on in life.
I’m deeply grateful that they recover so well. Allow me to say goodbye to #heylongsocks and start using #nomoresocks ♡
Snowball always loves playing with my socks, and gets me chasing after her here and there just to get them back! Guess she has more free ‘toys’ now.
